Brighton join chase for £20m Zaidu

Brighton boss Graham Potter has stepped up his interest in FC Porto defender Sanusi Zaidu, Sports Extra reports.

The Seagulls see Zaidu as a replacement for Marc Cucurella, who is on the verge of joining Manchester City.

The Super Eagles defender is under contract at Porto until 2025 but is valued at £20m by the Portuguese champions.

But Brighton face stiff competition from Crystal Palace for the 25-year-old Nigerian, whose representative is super-agent Jorge Mendes.

Zaidu played 40 matches for Porto last season, scoring three goals, has Champions League experience and has been capped 10 times by Nigeria.

He was in action for the Eagles as they thrashed Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 in Monday’s match-day two 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Morocco, weighing in with an assist for Terem Moffi’s second goal.
